Downloading Greentree

So, over the weekend I downloaded Greentree. Free, digital library software from Australia. Today, I deleted it all because I could not figure it out.
I expected to have this library up and running by the end of the semester but that may not happen.
What a learning experience, I never realized there was so much to learn, especially in the digital world.
I will be seeking lots of help this weekend!

Survey results

So, I finally put together my survey results. The most interesting thing to me was that only 15 of the the 34 surveyed use the public library services and many of those surveyed see eresources as more important than actual physical resources.

I will use these results to establish the library for the region with the needs of the team in mind and it is evident from the survey that there are many who are comfortable with eresources but not so sure what is out there or how to access it.

One of the other predominant themes too was that everyone surveyed felt the library should be password protected.

Many saw training in personal growth, recruiting and sales as the most important resources to provide, so I will also have to do some research on what is available via eLibraries in those catagories, looks like I have my work cut out for me!

Creating a Questionaire

I created a questionaire that I handed out at our team meeting on the 15th. I still have to compile the results but the response was very positive. I included an incentive and had a door prize type drawing for anyone who submitted their questionaire before the end of the training. I had 34 returned of the 38 in attendance so I thought that response was excellant. I am going to send the questionaire off to Dr. Hastings and see what she has to say. I did not get a good response from Dr. Solomon in my research class but for a first attempt it was not too bad and got the information I needed to move forward with the digital library.
Now, I have to compile the results and move forward with the actual building of the site.

Creating a survery

We are having a huge meeting next Saturday and I have decided to design a survey to get input from those who are part of the region as to what they would like to see in a digital repository and how they would use it.
Since we are talking in one of my classes right now about using surveys and interviews in research it is a perfect way to tie these two classes together and to get some experience. I am also going to publish the questions to our yahoo group so that those who can not attend can have a chance to give their input!
This will be exciting and I feel like a real step to moving forward in building this virtual library.

Shadowing a Techy

I think I am in a little over my head with 3 classes in one semester but i am chugging ahead.
I plan to work on the questionaire for my fellow managers this weekend.
I have been ask to make this digital repository accessible only to managers in our region for now so I also have to learn about limited access.
I think my next course of action should be spending time with someone who has built a repository like this so I am going to see if our local library has a techy I can spend some time with.

It's all in who you Poll!

I have been asking those who will use this library what they want to see in a digital repository. While we have many of our books already in hardcover form, it is important that they can be accessed via a digital resource,
I decided to devise a poll and add all of those who will have access.
Questions will include:
What websites do you frequently visit when searching for help in managing your business?
What resource have you found invaluable as you manage your team?
What one author do you reach for when working to improve your leadership skills?
If you could choose any resource for training what would it be?
I am learning in 705 that research is so important no matter what venture you are taking so I think this is a good place to start.

What would you like to see

This week I started some research into what needs to be done to set up a digital repository that will benefit those who are managers or working toward management in the Engle region lia sophia group. One of the interesting things is that I also received some information about the same approach Thomas Nelson library is doing at USC, I would love to live close enough to be an intern on that project since I think the hands on experience would be invaluable. But, since VA is a little too far away I am going to rely on the written information I have found.
I have also decided to invite all those who will be using this repository to give me their input so I will be sending out an email asking for unput in the next week. Basically I want to know what those in other management positions would deem as information important to include in a repository and what they would like to see. I have to flesh these questions out but the thought process is there and growing.
